Q:
Who can benefit from orthotics?
A:
Everyone! Even if you don't suffer from any obvious foot pain you
may have some biomechanical imbalances that could lead to problems
later
if left untreated.
Q:
Are custom orthotics only for people with foot problems?
A:
Many clinical conditions may be present without any obvious foot
problems.
Subtle imbalances in the foot are amplified as they go up the leg,
knee,
hip and back resulting in problems that may not have been properly
assessed
due to lack of a full biomechanical evaluation.
Q:
Are your orthotics custom?
A:
Yes. Our orthotics are truly custom. We first perform a
clinical
biomechanical evaluation to determine the amount of correction
necessary.
Then a neutral position plaster foot mould of your is taken to yield a
positive plaster cast. Your orthotic is derived from this
platform
with the corrections necessary to address your specific
situation.
Any orthotic dispensed without a complete biomechanical evaluation and
neutral, non-weight bearing plaster cast, is not custom.
Q:
Does Health Canada (OHIP) or Private Insurance cover them?
A:
Custom insoles are not covered by Health Canada. General Welfare
or Family Benefits will cover orthotics in most cases. You may
also
be covered under your existing insurance policy from work or Extended
Health
plan. Only Custom orthotics will be covered, for that reason some
insurance companies will not cover computer-generated orthotics, as
they
are not custom. We recommend that you check with your insurer to
determine if you are covered for custom orthotics.
Q:
Do I require a prescription?
A:
No. You do not need a prescription to obtain orthotics. If
your insurance company covers you for orthotics it is recommended that
you call them to determine if one is required.
Q:
Do you provide medical prescriptions?
A:
No. We are the orthotic supplier. It would obviously be
unethical
to prescribe and dispense ones own product. We are experts in
biomechanics
and gait analysis. It is therefore recommended that you first
come
for an evaluation. We will then provide you with a detailed
assessment
letter to take to your family doctor or Orthopedic Surgeon to concur
and
supply the prescription.
Q:
How long do they last?
A:
With everyday use under normal conditions you should get between 3-5
years
of correction from your Custom Orthotics. Age, weight and
activity
of the patient will play an important role in this issue.
Q:
Will they get rid of my pain and discomfort?
A:
Certain foot related pain and discomfort could be eliminated entirely
with
a pair of custom orthotics. Some conditions may be severe and
have
already undergone osseous change. In this case the orthotics will
prevent further damage and promote soft tissue restoration.
Q:
Will I need to continue my therapy?
A:
Custom orthotics addresses the biomechanical cause of the
condition.
They do not directly address the symptom i.e. inflammation. It is
therefore recommended that you continue your therapy to address the
non-biomechanical
aspects of your pain while the orthotics does their job.
Q:
Is there a guarantee?
A:
Yes. We offer a 60 day 100% money back guarantee! In very
few
cases a mild adjustment or modification may be necessary for patient
compliance.
If after such efforts you are not satisfied with comfort or compliance,
we will refund all your money.
